Boards Wales newsletter – December 2024
Opportunities
Since the last newsletter I’ve added the following board opportunities. There seems to be a heavy emphasis right now on sports, which is good news for governance for that sector!
There are now 9 live opportunities, including two that are ‘ongoing’ (for advisors and trustees at Sustainable Wales; Recovery Cymru is looking for a trustee treasurer).
Blog post
Last week I wrote a blog post about the importance of School Governors. I truly believe these wonderful volunteers are the unsung heroes of the education sector.
Please feel free to use this website as an opportunity to promote your board opportunity. I’m happy to host and promote a guest blog if that’s helpful in getting people to understand more about your organisation. Here’s one that I did for the National Infrastructure Commission a few years back. Yes it was an amateur production, but don’t let that stop you. People often value authenticity when it comes to values-based issues.
I’m also very happy to host a post about your own experiences of governance (or trying to get a board position!).
Events
A date for your diary – on 30 January, Audit Wales is holding an event on the challenge for public services in Wales. You can register here. I’ll be there! I look forward to seeing you in case you can make it
Welsh language
Some people have asked if the website can be translated. The answer is ‘yes’, but the Boards Wales website is an entirely voluntary effort, and I don’t currently have the time to be able to do it. It’s something I plan to do in the future; if I can obtain funding it will happen very soon, otherwise when I have the opportunity.
