Boards Wales newsletter – February 2026

Blog post
I’ve finally got round to publishing the data that underpins the jobs board on the main page of this website. Not all of it – there are a bunch of caveats – for example, I only started collecting the data systematically in March 2025, and of course I can’t claim to track every Board position available in Wales.
However there will hopefully be things of value and interest in the data for others. Take a look and enjoy!
Improving the public appointments process
Exciting times for me and the brilliant Rosemary Baylis-West of GatenbySanderson (yes, the sponsors of this website!); we have been contracted to support Welsh Government as they seek to make the appointments process for public bodies in Wales more accessible.
This is something both me and Rosemary feel very strongly about, and we have been supported by amazing feedback from a range of stakeholders, ranging from highly experienced Board members, to those who are still awaiting their first public Board appointment.
Nothing to report publicly here, but rest assured, there is plenty going on in the background!
Nature Guardian event
Not to steal the thunder of NICW, but they put on a blinder of an event in January to showcase what they’d learned in a six month experiment to investigate how decision-making was changed by incorporating a Nature Guardian into the Commission.
I have it on good authority – my own – that NICW will be publishing a blog post describing the event. In the interim, check out the bunch of other material about the Nature Guardian experiment.
